COURSE DESCRIPTION
This one-day course will provide
each attendee the tools necessary to perform key examination,
evaluation, and intervention strategies for clients with
vestibular disorders. Understanding the different causes of
vestibular dysfunction will assist the participant in choosing
and developing effective treatment and exercise programs
resulting in improved outcomes. Through the use of case studies,
different clinical settings will be presented. A clear clinical
approach will provide each attendee specific strategies that can
be immediately implemented the next day in the clinical
setting. Video analysis will be used throughout the content to
emphasize and clarify all major points and examples. Discussion
will also include motion sensitivity and cervical spine
proprioception limitations.
Many therapists will encounter a client with complaints of
dizziness. Forty percent of people over the age of 40, at some
point in time, experience dizziness or balance problems.
Unfortunately, many therapists are not aware of how to properly
treat this problem. This course will give you the skills to
identify and address these issues for your clients.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course,
participants will be able to:
- Identify
key examination questions to include during a vestibular exam.
- Identify
the appropriate tests to perform when assessing the cause of a
vestibular problem (hypofunction vs. hyperfunction).
- Identify
key characteristics of nystagmus through the following tests:
spontaneous nystagmus, gaze hold nystagmus, head shaking and
positional testing through video analysis.
- Formulate
a therapy diagnosis using subjective and objective information
gained through video case studies.
- Discuss
possible impairments, functional limitations and appropriate
goals using evidence-based practice for a variety of
