COURSE DESCRIPTION
Pain is an epidemic in the
health care field. Unrelieved pain continues to be identified in
clinical practice and related research as exacerbating symptoms and
compromising recovery in many diagnoses. Addressing anxiety is also
important to accelerate healing, eliminate the significant effect
stress has on disease, and promote maximum self-care for patients.
Even though pharmacological products continue to be developed each
year to control and eliminate pain and anxiety, many patients are
still unable to find relief. Healthcare providers are pressured to
find effective ways to treat pain and anxiety while struggling with
increased caseloads, decreased length of stays in the hospital,
staff shortages, and reimbursement issues.
This unique program offers
a review of related literature on the detrimental effects of pain
and anxiety on multiple disease processes, both physically and
psychologically. An overview of three noninvasive techniques:
relaxation, imagery, and therapeutic touch, will guide the health
care practitioner in successful management of acute and chronic
pain, and anxiety. In addition, this seminar will focus on related
practices of meditation and journaling for an integrated approach to
health and wellness. The latest evidence-based research will be used
to support the use of these techniques. Participants will be able to
perform and teach these techniques to patients, and integrate them
successfully into their own personal and professional lives. Upon
completion of this course, not only will health care professionals
learn an evidence-based approach to treating pain and anxiety of
their patients, but will also learn strategies for themselves.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of
this course, participants will be able to:
- Apply a
patient centered approach to pain assessment and management in

pain, anxiety, and burnout.
