A Guide for Physical and Occupational Therapists In
Treating Patients with a Spinal Cord Injury
This multimedia CD-ROM will assist
physical and occupational therapists in understanding the treatment of patients with spinal cord injuries. The CD
can be used on any PC and uses Internet Explorer and your favorite
media player to view the material. Both of these applications
are free and are standard on any computer using Microsoft Windows as
the operating system.
Mac users should be
able to use the CD as well. The video files are in mpeg format
and the written material are simple web pages that can be viewed
using any web browser. If your Mac computer can read PC
CD-ROMS, you will be able to use this CD.
The CD contains over
75 video clips and numerous pictures of real patients performing both
functional activities and strengthening exercises. Each video clip
contains narration and written commentary to instruct the therapist.
The CD includes functional outcomes for each
injury level as well as common movement strategies and
complications.
Functional activities
for bed mobility, transfers, wheelchair management, and pressure
relief’s for both paraplegics and tetraplegics are explained.
Also included are
several treatment ideas for strengthening in various positions
including: the wheelchair, supine, short and long sitting, quadruped
and prone. Recommendations for increasing the level of difficulty
and treatment considerations are included in audio and written
text.
CD OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this CD, the
therapists will be able to:
1. Identify progressions for bed mobility and transfer
training.
2. Describe necessary compensation techniques for patients
with spinal cord injuries.
3. Discuss multiple treatment options for the different injury
levels for the patient with a spinal cord injury.
