COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is for
therapists and nurses interested in achieving a solid foundation in
both wound care and seating/positioning. Understanding the
importance of providing optimal mobility devices is a significant
component to the prevention of wounds. Gaining this information on
techniques for positioning, combined with the knowledge of wound
care, will allow a holistic approach to patient treatment and
decrease costs related to wounds and contractures. Evaluation
methods like the PUSH tool shall be discussed as well as other
referenced treatment ideas.
Physical and
occupational therapists must appropriately evaluate patients and use
that information to choose the best seating equipment available to
them. The unique seating requirements of geriatric, pediatric,
bariatric, CVA, and SCI populations will be addressed. The speaker
will emphasize the use of evidence-based practice when writing
justification letters to improve reimbursement by insurance
companies. Video clips, pictures, and case studies are used in this
professional and energetic presentation. Please bring specific
seating case studies to address as a group if time allows.
